Australian citizenship test practice, part by part
Australian Citizenship is a study app for the test that most citizenship applications require. Its 357 questions and 36 lessons follow the four testable parts of Australian Citizenship: Our Common Bond, and its mock tests are the real thing's shape: 20 questions in 45 minutes, marked against 75% plus every values question.
- 357 questions, all four testable parts
- Mock tests: 20 questions, 45 minutes
- Free: the values chapter and a mock a day
Australian Citizenship is an independent educational app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Department of Home Affairs or any government body. Its content is based on the official resource Australian Citizenship: Our Common Bond, which the Department says is all you need to prepare, and which it publishes free.

Mock tests
Mock tests marked the way the real test is marked
Twenty questions against a 45-minute clock, each tagged with its part of the booklet and its difficulty. A mock passes only if you score 75% and get every values question in it right, which is the Department's rule, and every question you miss goes on a list for later. One mock a day is free; Premium makes them unlimited.

Lessons
36 lessons from Our Common Bond, read aloud if you like
Each lesson is a short read built from the booklet's testable section, with the facts the test asks about called out, a Read Aloud button for the commute, and a quiz at the end. The values part alone is ten lessons, which is about right for the part of the test you cannot afford to get wrong.

The four parts
Practice by part, weakest first
The four testable parts of the booklet, each with its own question bank and a progress figure: 97 questions on Australian values, 90 on Australia and its people, 50 on democratic beliefs, rights and liberties, and 120 on government and the law. A custom test builder mixes parts and difficulty however you want.

Test day
A countdown to the test, and a list of your mistakes
Set the date and the home screen counts down to it, with a daily goal, a streak, and one tap into the values chapter or whatever you got wrong last time. The listing's own home screen shows 90 days to go and a 20-question mock waiting.

How it works
Install to test day.
01
Set your test date
Download Australian Citizenship on an iPhone or iPad running iOS 15.1 or later, enter the date on your appointment letter, and set a daily goal in minutes. The home screen counts down from there.
02
Learn a part, then test it
Read the lessons for one part of the booklet, take the quiz at the end of each, then run a mock. The values chapter and one mock a day are free; Premium unlocks all four parts and unlimited mocks.
03
Review mistakes until the mocks hold
Every wrong answer goes on the review list. Drill it, use the weak-areas mode, and walk into the appointment once timed mocks are holding well above 15 out of 20 with the values questions clean.

Questions
Common questions.
How many questions are in the Australian citizenship test, and how long is it?
Twenty multiple-choice questions in 45 minutes, on a computer, in English. The Department of Home Affairs says the questions are drawn from the testable section of Australian Citizenship: Our Common Bond, and five of the 20 are about Australian values. The app's mock tests use the same 20 questions and 45 minutes.
Learn more →What is the pass mark for the Australian citizenship test?
Fifteen correct answers out of 20, which is 75%, and all five Australian values questions correct. Both conditions apply, so 19 out of 20 fails if the wrong one was a values question. The app marks every mock against the same two conditions.
Learn more →Do I really have to get all five Australian values questions right?
Yes. The Department's wording is that you must answer 5/5 (100%) of the Australian values questions correctly, on top of the 75% overall. They come from Part 4 of the booklet, which is the shortest part, and the app gives it ten lessons and 97 practice questions for that reason.
Learn more →Who has to sit the Australian citizenship test?
Most applicants for citizenship by conferral aged 18 to 59. Applicants under 18, aged 60 or over, or with a permanent or enduring physical or mental incapacity may have an interview instead, at which the Department confirms identity and may ask you to show you understand the application.
Learn more →How much does the Australian citizenship test cost, and how do I book it?
There is no separate fee and you do not book it. The citizenship application fee, AUD 595 for general eligibility from 1 July 2026, includes the test, and the Department invites you to an appointment at one of its offices after you apply. Bring photo ID or the appointment is moved.
Learn more →Are the app's questions the real Australian citizenship test questions?
No. The real questions are not published, and the Department says even its own practice test uses different questions from the ones you get on the day. The app's 357 questions are written from the booklet's testable section, each with an explanation and a source reference, which is where the real ones come from too.
Learn more →What happens if I fail the Australian citizenship test?
Your application continues and your permanent residence is untouched. The Department arranges another appointment, and because the application fee includes the test there is no charge for sitting again. Its pages do not say how many attempts you get; guides and news reports describe limits, and the guide below sets out which is which.
Learn more →Does the Australian Citizenship app work offline?
Lessons, questions and mock tests are stored on the device, and offline access is part of Premium. Your progress is kept on the phone rather than in an account, so there is nothing to sign up for.
Is the Australian Citizenship app made by the Department of Home Affairs?
No. It is an independent educational app built by Vishwen Labs, not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the Department or any government body. The Department endorses no external app, including this one, and says its free booklet is all you need. The facts on this page come from the Department; the lessons and questions are the app's own.
