Swedish citizenship test practice, built on Sverige i fokus

Medborgarskapsprov is a study app for the civics test that Sweden now requires for citizenship: 60 multiple-choice questions in Swedish, run by UHR, sat for the first time on 15 August 2026. Its 962 questions and 40 lessons follow the 13 chapters of Sverige i fokus, the official study material, in Swedish and English a tap apart, and its timed mock uses a preliminary pass mark until UHR publishes the real one.

  • 962 questions across 13 chapters
  • Swedish and English, one tap apart
  • Free: the first 50 questions and a mock a day

Medborgarskapsprov is an independent study aid and is not affiliated with the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR), the Swedish Migration Agency (Migrationsverket) or any other Swedish authority. UHR's citizenship test is based on the study material Sverige i fokus, which UHR publishes with the National Agency for Education; the app's lessons and questions are its own, written from that material, and each question names it as the source.

Mock exams

A 60-question mock in 90 minutes, like the real sitting

UHR's first test had 60 multiple-choice questions with four options, 90 minutes, in Swedish. The app's mock has the same shape and a pass mark of 72% that it labels preliminary, because UHR has said it will recommend the pass level after analysing the August results. When the real threshold is published the mock will follow. Every wrong answer goes on a review list either way.

Questions

Common questions.

Who has to take the Swedish citizenship test?

Applicants for citizenship aged 16 to 66 who cannot show knowledge of Swedish and of Swedish society another way: with grades in Swedish or Swedish as a second language from grundskola or gymnasium, komvux or folkhögskola, or a pass in SFI course D. Migrationsverket decides who is offered the test and sends a letter, and only a person with that letter can register. Exemptions exist for disability and other special reasons.

How many questions are on the Swedish citizenship test, and what is the pass mark?

The first test, on 15 August 2026, had 60 multiple-choice questions with four options, 90 minutes, on paper, in Swedish. UHR has not published a pass mark; it said it would analyse the pilot's results and recommend the pass level during autumn 2026. The app's mock uses 60 questions, 90 minutes and 72% as a preliminary format and says so.

What is on the Swedish citizenship test?

Swedish society as described in Sverige i fokus, the study material UHR publishes with the National Agency for Education: the country, democracy, how Sweden is governed, elections, law, the media, human rights, work and money, welfare, modern history, Sweden and the world, religion, and traditions. UHR's five example questions covered the public sector, the head of state, natural resources, Finland until 1809 and freedom of expression.

When is the next Swedish citizenship test?

Not announced. The first sitting was on 15 August 2026 at Stockholmsmässan; UHR and Migrationsverket have said that the next dates and places will be announced during autumn 2026, and registration is closed until then. Only people who have received a letter from Migrationsverket can register.

Does the Swedish citizenship test cost money?

The August 2026 pilot was free. From tests held in 2027 the fee is 2,000 kronor per sitting under the government's regulation on the test (förordning 2026:451), and stateless people with refugee status or a Swedish travel document do not pay it. The citizenship application itself costs 2,900 kronor regardless.

Learn more →
Is the Swedish citizenship test in English?

No. The test is written in Swedish only, at a level UHR compares to the end of compulsory school. That is why the app is bilingual: learn the material in English if that is faster, then switch to Swedish, so that the Swedish wording is familiar before the day. The separate language requirement is shown with SFI course D, grades or a Tisus result until UHR's own language test arrives.

Learn more →
Do I need a Swedish language test for citizenship now?

Not from UHR yet. Since 6 June 2026 applicants aged 16 to 66 must show knowledge of Swedish, normally with grades, SFI course D or komvux; Migrationsverket also accepts a Tisus result and, during the transition, tests such as Swedex. UHR's language test in reading and listening must be in place by 1 October 2027.

Learn more →
What are the requirements for Swedish citizenship in 2026?

Since 6 June 2026: proven identity, 18 years of age, a permanent residence permit or right of residence, eight years of residence as a rule, an honest and orderly way of life, self-sufficiency of about 20,000 kronor a month before tax from work or business, and knowledge of Swedish and of Swedish society for ages 16 to 66. There are no transitional rules: applications not decided by 6 June are judged on the new rules.

Does the Medborgarskapsprov app work offline?

Yes. Lessons, questions and mocks are stored on the device, and progress stays on the phone rather than in an account. There is nothing to sign up for.

Is the Medborgarskapsprov app made by UHR or Migrationsverket?

No. It is an independent study aid from Vishwen Labs, not affiliated with UHR, Migrationsverket or any other Swedish authority. The facts on this page come from Migrationsverket, the Riksdag and what UHR has published; the lessons, questions and preliminary mock format are the app's own.
