Sverige i fokus: the material the Swedish citizenship test is written from

What it is

UHR describes it as educational material that anyone can use to read up before the test, containing basic knowledge about Swedish society, and its information for candidates says that this is how to prepare. It was written for the test and published in 2026 as the test's syllabus. It is not a textbook for a course; it is a compact account of how Sweden works, written in plain Swedish, and UHR's five example questions are each answerable from a page of it.

The 13 chapters

In order:

• Lag och rätt (Law and Justice), Mediernas roll (The Role of the Media) and Mänskliga rättigheter (Human Rights).

• Sveriges moderna historia (Sweden's Modern History) and Sverige och omvärlden (Sweden and the World).

How to read it

Twice. Once in a language you read easily, if you can find or make one, so that the ideas land: what a kommun does, why the fundamental laws matter, how the welfare system is paid for. Then in Swedish, sentence by sentence, keeping a list of the terms for institutions, rights and duties. Where the material describes a practical fact, make sure you know the principle behind it, because UHR's example questions ask why the public sector exists and how freedom of expression works, not how to fill in a form.

How the app is built on it

Medborgarskapsprov's 40 lessons and 962 questions are written from Sverige i fokus, chapter for chapter and in the same order, and every question names it as its source on the explanation screen. The lessons carry the material's content in Swedish and English with read-aloud; the questions test it in the test's own format, four options and one correct. UHR has said that it does not stand behind practice tests made by others and has not checked their quality, and that applies to this app as to every other: it is a way to learn and rehearse the official material, not a substitute for reading it.

What it is not

It is not the question bank. UHR has released five example questions and no more, and the real questions are held back. It is not the language test either; it prepares you for the civics part. And it is not long. Forty-eight pages is an afternoon's reading in your own language and a few weeks' work in Swedish, which is exactly the size a syllabus should be.
