How many questions are on the Swedish citizenship test, and what is the pass mark?

Sixty questions, and nobody knows the pass mark yet. UHR's first civics test on 15 August 2026 had about 60 multiple-choice questions with four options, one of them right, to be answered in 90 minutes, on paper, in Swedish. UHR called it an utprövningsprov, a trial sitting in which the questions were used for the first time at full scale, and said it would analyse the results and recommend the pass level during autumn 2026. Until then no public threshold exists, and figures on prep sites, such as 70% or 75%, are guesses. The app's mock uses 72% and labels it preliminary.
What UHR has said
UHR's practical information for the August sitting was short and exact: the actual test time is 90 minutes; the test consists of about 60 questions; they are multiple choice with four options of which one is correct; the test is in Swedish; it is written on paper. On the level, UHR said before the sitting that it would be set, evaluated and adjusted, and compared it to the end of compulsory school; after the sitting it said a recommendation for the pass score would follow in the autumn. It also said that a trial sitting means generous time for everyone. Nothing about the pass mark, the number of attempts or a digital format has been published.
What comparable tests do
Sweden's neighbours give a sense of the range. Denmark's indfødsretsprøve has 45 questions and requires 36 correct, 80%, in 45 minutes. Norway's statsborgerprøve has 36 questions and requires 24 correct, two thirds, in 60 minutes. The UK's Life in the UK test has 24 questions and requires 18, 75%. Finland's test, which starts in 2027, has no published threshold either. A Swedish pass mark set from the pilot's results is likely to land in that band, and 72% sits between Norway's and Denmark's, which is why the app uses it.
The app's preliminary format, and why it is labelled
The mock in Medborgarskapsprov runs 60 questions in 90 minutes and passes at 72%, which is 44 correct. The format is stored as configuration with a flag that says the pass mark is not official, the Practice screen shows a tilde before the question count, and the store listing says the app will update the format as soon as UHR publishes the real one. That is deliberate. A study app that quoted a firm threshold for a test whose administrator has not set one would be inventing a fact, and UHR has said plainly that it does not stand behind third-party practice tests. The least a third-party test can do is not claim to be official.
How to use a mock whose pass mark may change
Treat the score as a percentage and the breakdown as the point. Whether UHR settles on 65% or 80%, a candidate who scores 90% across the chapters on unseen questions passes, and one who scores 60% does not. The topic breakdown tells you which chapters produced the misses, and that does not depend on the threshold at all. When UHR publishes the pass level, the mock will change to match and your history stays comparable as percentages.
Sixty questions in 90 minutes
Ninety minutes for 60 questions is a minute and a half each, and UHR promised generous time at the trial sitting. The constraint is reading Swedish, not thinking. The habits that help are the usual ones: read every option, because distractors are built from true statements about a neighbouring fact; treat only, always and never as warnings; answer everything, since no comparable test rewards a blank over a wrong guess. Then practise under the clock in Swedish, because that is the skill the paper measures.
