Troubleshooting Guide

App Crashes or Freezes

• Force close and restart: Double-tap home button (or swipe up), swipe away the app, then reopen it
• Update the app: Check the App Store for available updates
• Restart your device: Power off and back on
• Reinstall: Delete and reinstall the app (note: you'll lose progress unless backed up)

Subscription Issues

Problem: "Restore Purchases" doesn't work

• Ensure you're connected to the internet
• Verify you're using the same Apple ID for the original purchase
• Wait a few minutes after purchase before restoring
• Restart the app and try again

Problem: Charged but still showing as Free

• Tap "Restore Purchases" in the app
• Check your Apple ID subscriptions to verify the purchase went through
• Wait 5-10 minutes as processing can take time
• If issue persists after 24 hours, contact support

Problem: Can't cancel subscription

• Subscriptions are managed through Apple, not in our app
• Follow the cancellation steps in the FAQ above
• Contact Apple Support if you can't access subscription settings

Progress Not Saving

• Ensure you have sufficient storage space on your device
• Don't force close the app immediately after completing a test
• Check if "Low Power Mode" is interfering with background saves
• Try the "Clear Cache" option in Settings (won't delete progress)

Notifications Not Working

• Check app permissions: iOS Settings → Notifications → German Citizenship Test → Allow Notifications
• Enable in app: App Settings → Notifications → Toggle on
• Do Not Disturb: Check if Do Not Disturb mode is enabled
• Scheduled Focus: Check Focus settings aren't blocking notifications

Language/Translation Issues

• Change language in: Settings → Language
• Restart the app after changing language
• Some minor UI elements may remain in English (interface language)
• Report any mistranslations to support for fixing

Audio (Text-to-Speech) Not Working

• Ensure device volume is turned up and not muted
• Check that "Audio" is enabled in app Settings
• Download the language voice pack in iOS Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices
• Some languages may have limited TTS support

1. Create a Study Plan

• Set your test date in the app to create urgency
• Aim to study 15-30 minutes daily (consistency is key)
• Set a daily study goal in Settings
• Enable notifications for study reminders

2. Master Each Chapter

• Start with Chapter 1: Politics in Democracy
• Read the lessons before attempting questions
• Use flashcards for difficult questions
• Complete all chapters before taking full mock tests

3. Practice Strategically

• Take regular mock tests to simulate real exam conditions
• Focus on "Weak Topics" tests to improve problem areas
• Review incorrect answers immediately to learn from mistakes
• Use the Custom Test Builder to target specific topics

4. Track Your Progress

• Check your pass prediction regularly
• Aim for 80%+ accuracy before taking the real test
• Review analytics to identify weak areas
• Maintain a study streak for consistency

5. Select Your Bundesland

• Choose the correct federal state in Settings
• Study the 10 Bundesland-specific questions carefully
• Know the capital city, coat of arms, and basic facts about your state

About the Official Test

Test Format

• Total Questions: 33 multiple-choice questions
• General Questions: 30 questions covering all topics
• Bundesland Questions: 3 questions specific to your federal state
• Passing Score: 17 correct answers (51%)
• Time Limit: 60 minutes (you can finish earlier)
• Format: Paper-based or computer-based (depending on location)

• Politics in Democracy (elections, government, rights)
• History and Responsibility (Nazi era, division, reunification)
• People and Society (education, religion, equality)
• Your Bundesland (state-specific facts)

Eligibility Requirements

To take the citizenship test, you typically need:

• At least 8 years of legal residence in Germany
• Valid residence permit
• German language proficiency (B1 level)
• Financial self-sufficiency
• No serious criminal record

Note: This app prepares you for the test only. For eligibility questions, contact your local citizenship office (Einbürgerungsbehörde) or immigration advisor.

Privacy & Data

Data Storage

All your study progress, test results, and personal preferences are stored locally on your device. We do not sync your data to the cloud or share it with third parties (except anonymous analytics).

Analytics

We collect anonymous usage analytics to improve the app. These analytics contain no personally identifiable information. For details, see our Privacy Policy.

Deleting Your Data

You can delete all your data at any time in Settings → Danger Zone. This action is irreversible.
